Three Australian blokes — artists and animators Paul Robertson, Ivan Dixon, andJeremy Dower — discovered that truth after their video of a pixel version of The Simpson‘s couch gag went viral last week. The video clip got over a million hits in the first two days, and currently has over two million views. The work was soimpressive that the producers of The Simpsons actually contacted them about using it in an upcoming episode.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the guys said that while they “secretly hoped the show would pick it up,” when they actually did get that email — which went to Dixon’s spam folder — they “thought it was a hoax.”
Does that mean those Nigerian princes may actually just need help managing their wealth? Anything is possible.
Simpsons creator Matt Groening said of their video: “The pixel-art Simpsonsanimation takes my brain to a paradise of primitive techno-giddiness. I know if I had a tail I would be wagging my butt off.” Executive Producer Al Jean added, “This job was already great; now people are doing the work for us. Thanks for 90 brilliant seconds Ivan, Paul and Jeremy.”
